Hi all, I have just purchased a new Yamaha C trumpet and I have noticed after playing it and putting it down or on a stand, the slide (ring finger) slides out on its own!! Is this normal?

Try putting thicker slide grease on it.

In theory, a new trumpet should have tight enough slides (with lubricant) and tight enough valves where the third slide shouldn't move much when it's on a stand. If the valves are vented, air pressure alone won't hold the slide on.

A slightly thicker lubricant on the third valve slide is definitely an option. More or thicker valve oil, as well.

You should also double check the water key on that slide if there is one.

I think it is ideal if the 3rd slide slides out to the stop when the 3rd valve is depressed. If it is on the stand, and it slowly eases out by itself against a closed valve, then a thicker slide grease should fix this.

Do you hear the pressure pop from the horn if you move the slide against a closed valve? Just checking that there is no leak anywhere. The water key may be the issue then, as veery715 says.
