Ok so I did a search. Nothing to answer my question. Any of you folks use spitballs to clean a flugelhorn? I know they are popular for trumpet and cornet but I really can't find much on flugelhorns. Also do you shoot them through with valves up or down in a flugelhorn, if you in fact can use them on a flugelhorn. Thanks

I use them regularly in my trumpet. But they get stuck in my flugelhorn (a getzen eterna).

I hate that. Looks like a good idea but getting stuck is not a good thing.

wait.....the flugelhorn is too big or the spitball. If the spitball is too big why not cut it in half?

I've never tried that, but with rough edges, it probably would catch. Stiff snake/cable brush that's long is the only way with a flugel. It's a pain!!

I use spitballs in my flugel without a problem. I shoot one through with all valves up and then repeat with all valves down. I use a pen to push it down the leadpipe before I blow it through. ;)

Interesting. What brand flugelhorn do you have. Just wonder if it relates to the taper size. How far do you push the spitball into the lead pipe?

Same for me in the same order; never had a problem. I use a Q-Tip to push it in just past where the end of the mouthpiece goes. Then I put the mp in and blow, aiming the bell toward a trash can.
