    It is serious stuff. Causes your lips to split, get infected. It can also damage your sense of intonation. It seems to hit guys harder than gals. I don't know why.

    Is it a temporary thing like a cold sore, or somthing that you will always have?

    Hydration has been discussed. how is the rim of your mouthpiece? If it is old and worn, you may have a reaction to the brass. There is a product available in Australia call Lucas' Pawpaw Ointment. Living in a harsh climate, I have tried everything and it wins hands down. It is available through chemists in Australia.

    My mouthpiece is fairly new, there are barely any scratches or any dents.
