That is one huge loss - not only in value, but in emotional loss. Sorry for the guy. Can't help though - rather too far away.

I live in the Cleveland area, and I'll keep my eyes out for any of these horns.
I'm really sorry for Brian's loss and hope he can recover the instruments.

Having one horn stolen was traumatic for me. I can imagine what it's like to have an entire collection gone - devastating. I hope these get recovered and the perp caught. Perhaps a search on eBay might turn up one or more of them eventually. CraigsList might be harder to follow, but worth a little time.

Does it seem that a bit of prior knowledge played a part in this theft?

Oh, and I just thought that if the horns weren't scheduled on homeowners' insurance, the financial pain will be substantial.

That's incredibly sad about the horns.

I spent 8 (misguided) years of my life as a Farmers Agent, and I would implore all you good people on this forum to schedule your instruments, if you haven't already.

Otherwise, you're screwed on claims. Insurance varies from state to state, but a Homeowners policy in Texas typically has a relatively low limit for musical instruments, and it's subject to a very significant deductible.

Right now, I only have one horn--I'd be devastated if I lost that!! I'm also not making my living from playing--I can only imagine how somebody who IS making his living from playing, and who necessarily has several horns, would feel if he had a lot of them stolen..I hope Brian can get his horns back undamaged!!

I should amend my remarks somewhat, in the interest of accuracy....I said I only have one horn, but as you can see in my signature, I own several--the only ones that are in playing shape right now are my Strad and my pocket trumpet--the one I play on a daily basis is my Strad.

In any case, whatever the number of horns one owns, having property stolen is something that shouldn't happen to anyone.

I can tell you the sick feeling you get in your stomach after being violated in such a way is devastating and my sincerest sympathies. I do a lot of looking on eBay (usually not for such high end horns) but I will make it a point to look and keep my eyes open.
