I have always prefered to practice in the morning (within an hour of waking up) because my lips are a little bit swelled, and for some reason that feels better to me.

Any ideas why slightly swelled lips might feel better? I like having a little more cushion, and my tone seems to be fatter.

Does this mean that my mouthpiece is too wide for my lips? Or that I'm using some kind of smiling/stretching technique when I play?

    Any ideas would help.

    Thanks Manny

Sounds to me like you have all the possibilities covered. So, is it time for a different mouthpiece? Maybe a little tighter rim is what's called for and a good "TOOH" consistently when you articulate and maintain "HOOH" as your vowel.
