I kinda like trumpetmike's approach... stain the whole shirt first! Maybe you could come up with a line of pre-stained apparel for the trumpet world...

On the other hand, has anybody tried the new stain pens that are available these days?

Try making your own, which I do and this usually works. Take equal parts of liquid Wisk, ammonia, and water and make a solution. Then spray on the spot and wash as normal. This seems to work for me most of the time. Sometimes, for really tough stains it might take a couple of treatments.

Thanks to all of you for the useful and sometimes amusing responses. I have some good ideas now for my silk and synthetic clothes.

Hey Frank, the oil stains do show up on black too.....that is what I hate about them! I don't want to ruin Ampelmann!!! :-o

I always though it was no strain, no gain.

Go to WalMart and buy "Grease Lightning" It comes in a spray bottle and I've used it for all kinds of fabrics. It's an Industrial strength degreaser and it does the trick.
