I just go an email from an organization called Taps for Veterans. Anyone have any info on them? Seem to parallel the efforts of Bugles Across America. The big difference seems to be that Taps for Veterans requires you to audition for them.

Just one bump from me--then this thread can die a natural death.

Okay, I've not heard of them, but any organization the does this for veterans is a good thing in my book

I also LIKE the idea of auditioning before they send you out.

I have heard a lot of people who have NO business playing Taps.

Lousy sound, don't know the rhythm, and just plain do not play in a way that would "Honor" anyone.

As an aside, when I played for my uncle, I "sang the words" in my head (used to sing it at the end of each Scout meeting) to get the rhythm right.

Actually, Bugles Across America does require an audition.

This might be a policy change, or a requirement that varies by state. Or maybe I was just overlooked. I joined Bugles Across America about 3 years ago, and I did not have to audition.

Same for me. Had 2 missions so far and I could have had more if not for all the conflicting obligations or sometimes long trips to the site. Rural areas services seem to pose more difficulty for BAA to fulfill its mission, whereas the Willamette National Cemetary, where I have been twice, has a Bugler on site who is there pretty much all the time and very competent. I'll make effort to go to a rural one next.

I didn't audition for Bugles Across America either. Joined about 3 years ago.
