Everyone I know uses a trumpet mouthpiece with a bugle, regardless of whether it is a Bb or G. The Rexcraft Boy Scout or U.S. Regulation is pitched in G. Even my own Slingerland marketed brand U.S. Regulation made by Holton came with a lousy (IMO) mouthpiece.

I dug through 10 boxes of stuff in my basement. I found the pencil sharpener that has been missing for almost 2 years, along with directions to solve the rubik's cube, notes from sanskrit class, trumpet snake, mouthpiece brush, 2 bottles of valve oil, unused envelopes, cross stitch patterns, the floaty I couldn't find last month (when packing for vacation) and.... the trumpet mouthpiece! I sound much better on the bugle now :)

Here are a bunch of calls: U.S. Army Music - Bugle Calls

The goal is to get each note "smack down the middle" rather than skim along the tops of the notes. Yeah, I know it sounds weird; maybe someone else can describe it better.
