Over the past three years I've had my ups and downs with my playing due to health problems. For the third time in those three years I found that Christmas was a magical evening for my playing. I played 2 jobs yesterday and it was like I had the best chops in the world. We actually did some very difficult (fun for the serious musician) arrangements. I played really well, and at the end of the second job I really felt like I had enough chops to play two more gigs! It was a great evening! It is strange, my wife (who is a great musician, much better than I am) said that she finds that the best I play every year is at Christmas! I thought about it and over the years she has been right. We always find some way to add something special to jobs around Christmas. It doesn't matter if it is playing in an orchestra, an 8 piece R&B band, or in Church, Christmas tends to bring the best out of most of us!
