Over the past three years I've had my ups and downs with my playing due to health problems. For the third time in those three years I found that Christmas was a magical evening for my playing. I played 2 jobs yesterday and it was like I had the best chops in the world. We actually did some very difficult (fun for the serious musician) arrangements. I played really well, and at the end of the second job I really felt like I had enough chops to play two more gigs! It was a great evening!

It is strange, my wife (who is a great musician, much better than I am) said that she finds that the best I play every year is at Christmas! I thought about it and over the years she has been right. We always find some way to add something special to jobs around Christmas. It doesn't matter if it is playing in an orchestra, an 8 piece R&B band, or in Church, Christmas tends to bring the best out of most of us!

glad everything went well for you, I had a little different experience.

Been playing with the choir only about 3 or 4 months, this was my first time for a Christmas (midnight) mass.

We did about 8 songs before the actual mass started.
I was to play on the first 5, along with the keyboard player.

About half way through the second song, I started sweating.
I mean sweating like it was the middle of August, being from Lafayette, you know what I mean.

My face was drenched, couldn't keep my mouthpiece from slipping.
Had a handkerchief and tried drying my lips and mouthpiece when I could ..... but it didn't help too much.

Thank God, I had a chance to cool off while the choir did there 3 songs with out music before the mass started. The rest of the mass went fine.

Guess my nerves got to me, or maybe it was that necktie choking me or both. I'll have to learn from it and hopefully do better next time.

    Good New Year to all,

I found out for the first time what this feels like....

I'll post about it when I return to Georgia and have a chance to unwind and review the video from the Midnight Mass I played in my childhood church.

    It was a fantastic expirence!
