Touched down at SFO yesterday for a week full of work commitments in San Jose and checked the local gig guide - Tuesday night Dirty Dozen Brass Brand and Wednesday night, Chicago at the Concord Pavilion. How good is that for unplanned entertainment?

Tickets were duly bought at way less than it would've cost in Oz and I'm just hoping I'm over the jetlag for the shows.

I do have one embarassing admission... I saw Chicago's support band mentioned first - Reo Speedwagon (I'm a sucker for fat vocal harmonies) and went searching for tickets, that's when Chicago came into the picture:-o

Unfortunately these guys did not have the good grace to align their tour dates with my visit.

On the upside, Chicago were awesome and their line up includes their original trumpet and trom players.

And keyboardist/vocalist Robert Lamm, who wrote/co-wrote most of their songs. I mean really, that's not so bad. Between Robert and Jimmy Pankow (who arranges the horn parts), most of what created the sound is still there.

But yeah, everyone else is gone.
