Holy crap, I've spent so much of my time with students trying to undo that bogus advice!

In response to me asking about not adjusting my lips to change registers:

"Stand with your feet together on that tile. Now, no matter what you do, I want you to keep your feet on that spot."

He then threw his hand out as if he were going to push me.

"See? You'll stay in the same place but things will adjust slightly."

    It's helped me so much.

    In high school-

When he asked me how much I practiced and I tolded him 90-120 mnutes per day he responded...

"You better quit your job because if you practuce that much and you're only this good, you will need to double your practice time!!!"

I quit my job at Shakey's Pizza the next day!

"anyone can play the notes, that's not the hard part. You have to make them feel, that's what sets great trumpet players apart from ok ones. It's all about the music off the page"

I studied with a well-known teacher at a university outside of Chicago. I know you asked for something our teachers told us that we won't forget, but I instantly thought of something I told him that he seemed to have trouble remembering: My name.
