Thinking about switching to flute....

    No, I did 3 years as a regular working Joe Army bandsman before I went to the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and it was in the concert band there that I did the whistle through my teeth thing to confound the flutes. As for tuning, I didn't know it wasn't at the head joint - all I knew is that all eyes were on them and waiting for them to get it together before we could proceed, and they were scrambling to do the impossible - impossible because of the evil trumpet player whistling a quarter tone off on purpose. :D

    Common mistake, even for the astute observer who is unfamilar with the mechanics of a flute. I really got to know them well because my daughter plays them (she has 2) as well as the rest of the reeds. Three or four years ago she bought a brand new Selmer baritone sax, but I understand she has now sold it to pay for her MS meds.
