I've watched several videos of her and I can't tell just by looking if she's using "diaphragm" or lip vibrato. Has anyone read a description from her regarding vibrato? Thanks.

(Just to keep it on track, I'm not asking what others use. Thanks.)

Can't tell either, kehaulani. She simply looks so cool, composed, and efficient when she plays... I have read a couple articles about Helseth and watched a couple interviews, but nothing about her vibrato came out that I remember.

I would imagine her lips, as this is a finer set of muscle to control. I am not sure using the diaphragm is the better of the muscle groups that should be used for vibrato. Does anyone here on this forum use their diaphragm for vibrato? Sorry for asking, but I am such a control freak!

Right, so we are talking lip technique as driving the vibrato. This technique sounds interesting.

    Interesting question.

I have no knowledge of this except to guess that it's lip vibrato. (Does anyone regularly use diaphragm vibrato, except when they're trying to be stylistic?)

Why don't you email her or send her a tweet?

Oh, I do. Especially AFTER the gig when I have then consumed a few pints of beer. I find my diaphragm vibrato in that case works most excellently to relieve one of nature's fermented gasses. Is that stylistic? Well, I would say it's better that way, than from coming out the other end!
