In your opinion. Let me know.
It would be hard to pick between Ellington and Basie. The rest are just cover bands...
Haha, I like Ellington and Basie. Personally, I prefer the Portsmouth Sinfonietta. They aren't American, but they have truly inspiring interpretations.
I interpret the post to be about symphony orchestras? If so , here is my list in no particular order of subjective quality.
1. Cinncinati (nephew is cellist)
3. New York Phil
4. Philadelphia Orchestra
7. Chicago Symphony
10. Los Angeles
Many others worthy of mention.
haha yeah I was thinking more along the lines of Symphony Orchestras...
Cincinnati eh? I don't think I've ever heard a recording of them? That's badass about your nephew though. I'm surprised you have chicago ranked so low... I know a lot of people think they're over-rated, but this NPR article claims that they're number one in America...
Chicago Symphony Tops U.S. Orchestras : NPR
He said in no particular order
Oh. Just Kidding.
I give Chicago the slightest edge over New York... but I think it probably varies every day!
2. New York
5. Los Angeles
10. San Fransisco
I know, I know... that's 11... but I wanted to give frisco the nod SO bad! they're the stuff.
Top 10 based on what? Based on tickets sold? Recordings sold? Prestige (is that even measurable?) Musician salary? Number of performances per year? Most Musical (again, is that even measurable?) Best trumpet section? Best string section? Most guest artists?
I would need a more clear definition of how the ranking is supposed to be done before I were to give my opinion.
Just pick the 10 that you like to listen to the most...based on your tastes
