Don't recall if this exists but is there a TrumpetMaster Forum Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions?

I'm thinking one could be setup so that 75% of the volume of topics could be transferred to read this first, although I know we all like to chat around the different topics anyway.

    1. What trumpet to get?
    2. What mouthpiece to get?
    3. How do I hit a double or triple high C?
    4. How do I double, triple tongue?
    5. What kind of case should I get?
    6. Gallery to show off our new toys... I think that may already exist.
    7. How do you practice? (warm-up, routine, exercises, etc.)
    8. Who is the best trumpet player?
    9. Mutes, accessories, repairs, valves, etc.?
    10. --> sure someone could come up with something to put here.

Although I suppose a top 10 go read this first might make the day to day conversations less exciting.

Most all this info is in various sticky posts that most don't bother to read.

You left off valve oil and slide grease...but there's no consensus on those, as well as most of the other topics you listed.

FAQ's can only work when there is one defined right answer to a question. Unfortunately - or fortunately! - there is no such consensus in the trumpet world. Otherwise this forum would be boooooring. But so - there are even guys out there who enjoy playing some Chinese cheapohorn (or "junkpet")... and they are entitled to their opinion - until we teach them common sense;)

Should I use needle nose pliers or locking vise grip pliers to get my stuck mouthpiece out of my Vintage Martin Committee trumpet?

    THAT is question #10

It's better to first try two pliers - one on the receiver and one on the mouthpiece. When the mouthpiece and receiver are sufficiently chewed up, then it's time to get the vice grips out. Clamp the vice grips on the mouthpiece while holding the horn between your knees, and twist mightily. Then, list the horn with the broken leadpipe on eBay for "parts".

Neither - just get a couple more of elder (vintage) Martins here to form a new committee...
