It is not wasting time if your goal is to become a virtuoso whistler. There is probably more money in that anyway than in trumpet players that whistle instead of practicing...............................

So, what your saying is, learning to whistle the Arban's was a waste of time? Dang...

Absolutley no! Whistling (like singing) helps get the ears use to the intervals and intonation and helps with reading and musical expressivity. Whistling songs will help any musical endevor from piccolo to tuba.

How about some time with a harmonica? Trying to focus on the little apertures should do something for the embouchure. If it works let me know and I'll try it.

Harmonica??? I can see goat milking and sit-ups being effective, but let's face it. It's not about the horn, or the music, it's about chicks. And from what I've seen from the absolute best authority, (commercials) if you know how to whistle and smell like Irish Spring or Old Spice, you're gonna get chicks. End of discussion.

I whistle with my tongue consitantly in the top of my teeth and by adjusting my mouth :-o (This allows me to whistle in a seemingly natural lip position)
I think this may have effected my playing, interesting!
