Water to stay hydrated and Chop Saver Gold works for me.

i play 'dry-lip', so unlike the good Doctor has already mentioned lip-licking in the way God intended, I have been a lip suave junkie my entire trumpet-playing life. I use something on them everyday ... all day. I know it doesn't make sense, but I didn't like playing wet-lipped BUT my lips always felt dry &/or chapped when not playing.

Blistex (original ointment in the tube that was already mentioned) was my preferred ointment for decades. stinks a bit ... burns a bit, but always worked. I also used Carmex with positive results. Both are medicated. I never liked ChapStick ... or any other wax-balm-stick. They would cause cracks in the corners after a few days, even if my lips weren't chapped.

Recent years, I tried, love and use Blistex Deep-Renewal. Super silky feeling. Not greasy. Long-lasting. SPF 15. Moisturizes. Pleasant smell too, so my wife is a big fan too!

Same goes for me, but like Doc Onady said, I try to avoid using it unless I have to.

"I don't often use lip balm, but when I do, I prefer Chop Saver.

    Stay balmy my friends."
