I used to cut the inside of both my upper and lower lips. The sharp points of my cannine teeth and eye teeth were filed smoother by a dentist. It makes things a lot easier. I would do it again.

Are you putting excessive pressure on your lips when you play high notes?

I think Chuck is on the right track. I don't use excessive pressure for my lead playing, but alas, the skin on the inside of my bottom lip gets worn away at time by the sharp edges of my teeth... perhaps I'll see about the dental treatment you suggest. This may be similar to what was described in the OP?
