Really? While the trumpet is clearly the most noble and brilliant of instruments, the tone of an oboe I find to be truly wonderful. I know you're joking, just sayin, I love the oboe. :)

Almost 50 years ago I heard a competition judge very seriously intone that the trumpet was the easiest instrument to play, but the hardest instrument to master. Looking back at him life I don't know if he was right or wrong; but I know it's taken me a lifetime and I haven't mastered it yet.

A G-Bugle may be the easiest and hardest at the same time! French horn, with its lows and excellent highs came naturally to me.

Hey, where would REM's "Nightswimming" be without the oboe?

With this kind of self esteem and continual practice, if not already the best, you're truly are on your way to getting there.

"Re: Trumpet: most difficult wind instrument to master?" it's like anything to do with trumpetting, it's the player that determines the outcome - for me, the trumpet is the hardest instrument - but I only can compare it with the kazoo, and tenor horn, mouth organ, and recorder.
