Didnt read the whole thread so in case this was already said,SORRY.
A old saying when tuning:
"Close enough for JAZZ"
Might be a inside joke after all these years but you would see some of the old time greats bust up when this was said.
Remember folks- gotta be short and profound, or at least short and clever. That's my opinion.

This was a great thread worth bringing back up. I will be making some T-shirts for my section.
I think I will use this:

Trumpets. Play loud and play all the time. Even during the rests.
Let me suggest:
It's short and direct
But it doesnt say anything about trumpets!!! The low brass will steal it...
