I am a comeback player, returning to my battered Olds Ambassador after 40 years and some change. I've been at it almost three months now and while I'm making good progress feel that some instruction would speed things up and increase the quality of my playing. I play piano and guitar, can read music, and have a decent base in music theory. My main goal for trumpet is to play jazz improvisationlly.

I've googled trumpet instruction in San Diego but wondered if anyone on this forum might give me a pointer?

    Thanks!

Maybe check out a local university, where there is a trumpet professor.

As an aside, welcome to TM!

The Jazz director at San Diego University would be a good start. If you're willing to drive a little farther North, USC has a really outstanding music program. And if you can't find any in your area, try emailing dr. Anne McNamara from the University of Campbellsville for lessons over Skype. I've taken lessons from her in the past, and I can tell you that she's one of the best teachers I've studied with.

Calvin Price is awesome - I took a lesson with him in San Diego. He doesn't teach improv - can't remember who does off the top of my head.

If anyone has a more awesome set of youtube videos than HornTrader, then I don't know who they are.
