A small tribute to one of the greatest trumpet players the world has ever known. I studied with him for a while, he's an incredible teacher as well as a great human being.

His teachers included Schlossberg, Clarke, Maggio.

Hearing him play Clarke was a direct contact to Clarke.

He made you think, "ohhh." That's how it should be.....

Unlimited range, technique, but most of all everything was so beautiful.

    Have reverence for each note.

    Hi Dave:

    Thanks for posting this.

I studied for a while with a great NYC trumpet player and whenever he goes out to California, he takes a lesson with Uan. He tells me that many great players do the same...they see Uan as their teacher.

Did he ever publish anything regarding his system of playing?

Since you studied with him, could you tell a bit about his teaching style, what he recommends?

    Thank you!

    Agreed.
I read that article and was amazed to find he used a huge mouthpiece, around a Bach 1A. I guess there goes the theory you don't run marathons in wing tips.
It seems the true greats like Rasey, Mendez, and Herseth can overcome some horrible chop injuries and rise to the top. Uan has to endure polio, too. That must make him our Itzhak Perlman.
