use of Left arm pressure(habit)

    How can i remedy this? It has improved alot but it comes back when playing in the upper register. I dont even try to do it or realize i do it sometimes. Any tips?

    How are you holding the trumpet? I found that holding it with the thumb and second finger below the 1st and 3rd slides and the 1st finger to operate the 3rd slide helped a lot to reduce pressure.

    I think you have already made the important first step: recognising you could be using too much pressure. It took me many years to even realise I was, and that it was not necessary. Since then I found I just had to be mindful of it, and keep as focused as I could manage on keeping the pressure down until that became the new habit. The old habit did die hard though, and I sometimes discover I'm pushing too hard again. But thankfully not as hard as I have done so in the past.

    A good exercise from John Glasel for reducing pressure:

    Play a long tone, and while doing so reduce pressure; it will start to sound "bad." With this same pressure, do whatever it takes with the chops to make it sound "better" (not perfect or normal). In a short time you should notice some muscles being worked (a big ring or circle around the mouth.)

    This will allow us to train some muscles that don't normally get worked; when somewhat in shape it should require somewhat less pressure to play.

    This is the kind of problem that lends itself to visualization. While
    playing, learn to be constantly aware of the left arm and pressure
    and the nanosecond that you find yourself pressing, back off.

    Part 2, when you back off, your sound is likely to go down the toilet.
    Learn to adjust your embochure and more importantly, your airstream
    to provide the support you need and don't want to get from pushing your
    mouthpiece through your head =:-)
