    Yes but they put professional experience into your trumpet. Tinkering can be fun, but when you screw up, you are toast. If a shop screws up...and they are a good shop, they will replace or fix what they broke.

    True, but then I would not want an inexperienced player messing with an instrument. Only those that have some knowledge and experience should venture forward and attempt minor adjustments and/or repairs themselves. To which many are successful in "tweeking" their horns.
