I've just replaced the springs on my Committee with new Schilke springs and I have the same problem (the old springs had been stretched). The sound doesn't bother me too much, but do you think I should be concerned about wear between the spring and cylinder?

The Schilke springs are longer than the originals. I don't notice them bending but can see the contact against the side of the cylinder. Thinking about trying a set of Yamaha springs.

I think your Martin takes a smaller diameter spring than Schilke/Yamaha/Bach. Any larger spring will not seat properly in the guide so the bottom of the spring will be at an angle which will push the spring over to one side as you push the valve down.

Thanks Ivan. I've ordered smaller diameter springs online. They're still about 5mm longer than the originals I took out but hopefully they'll operate better than the Schilke springs.
