    Not so much in orchestral playing but sometimes in a traditional big band setting the whole section might use vibrato. I might add that a principal trumpet in an orchestra might "warm up" his sound with very subtle vibrato on certain sectional passages,
    as does a lead trumpet in a jazz setting but traditionally section players do not use vibrato unless their part has a "solo" quality.

    String players are a different animal all together, as are double reed players and flutes. They pretty much use vibrato ALL the time. Otherwise they take on a strident or "screachy" tone
