I must have been hiding in a hole for a long time. I've just started to listen to Mr Vache's playing....what musicality and a tone to die for? Not that it matters, I'm sure he'd sound great on a hose pipe, but what's he been playing? And what should I try and listen to for him at his best?

Xmas is coming up and I'm getting my CD list ready!

    Regards

    Trevor

Warren Vache is one of my favorite jazz cornetists. Some good albums to look into IMO are:

    Warren Plays Warren
    Live in Hamburg
    Mrs. Vache's Boys
    Easy Going
    Horn of Plenty (especially recommended)
    Warm Evenings
    What Is There to Say?
    Iridescence

    You should also check out:
    "2Gether" with Bill Charlap (Nagel-Heyer)
and any of his albums on Zephyr (http://www.zephyrrecords.co.uk/)
Also, Warren will have a new album out this spring on Arbors with
    Bill Charlap and Harry Allen.
Yes, Warren can basically grab any horn and mouthpiece around and still sound like Warren Vache (I've heard him do this at Dillon Music - any horn he pulls off the wall and any mouthpiece from the "used" box - it's amazing!)

I heard him in Edinburgh a couple of years ago. He was using Conn V1 trumpet and flugel. On the recordings he did with Derek Watkins he used a Smith Watkins Cornet.
