Have a meeting in D.C. next week with some time to kill. Are there great trumpet things to do, e.g. cool horn stores, great jazz venues?
    Appreciate any pointers.

If you want to try a bunch of horns out, head up to Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center in Wheaton, Maryland, just North of the DC beltway. They have lots of just about everything decent - shelves and shelves of Bachs so you can play them until you find all the clinkers and all the players! They also have in stock:
    Conn V1
and more that I probably can't think of off of the top of my head.

There is also Blues Alley (as in "Wynton Marsalis, live at Blues Alley") in Georgetown. I don't know who's playing there next week off of the top of my head, but you can always find out from the website.

And if you get really bored, you can come hang out at my place and absorb some brewed libations (or carbonated beverages, whatever is your preference) and talk shop. I live about 40 minutes outside of DC - not far at all for this area - I used to work IN DC.
