I am now 55 and "know" I was 9 when I started, so at your tender young age of 16, Adena, it makes me feel young when you only "believe" you were 10 when you started playing. Bless you for you youth and honesty!

I got my first trumpet for $119 brand new Conn Director in 1967 or 1968. I started in elementery school band that year at 10 years old. I played her until 1973 when mom took me to Pearson music in Raleigh, NC where I play tested a lot of silver trumpets. I was excited to get the Schilke B6 for $481.50. I am 53 now and have played for 43 years. I lost the Schilke in 2000 and got a 1949 Martin Committee Deluxe in 2009. I played a lot of horns inbetween the Schilke and the Committee.

I was nine years old when I started (I'm 23 now). My school district started the kids in 4th grade so that's when I started. I can't remember my first instrument but I know that it was a Bach.

Started on an unkown cornet model in the summer before 3rd grade...7 years old. Switched to trumpet and got a real and serious instructor in 5th grade.

Started when I was 15, stopped when I entered college at 18-19 years old and resumed playing after a 30 years hiatus on the same trumpet: a Blessing XL, probably the most expensive gift my parents had ever bought me at that time.

I started playing at age 12 in 7th grade, a year behind the flock in my school. My parents bought me a used long cornet. I can't remember the make. It was a major purcahse for the family at the time. I worked for my father to make money to have it overhauled and refinished when I was a freshman in high scool. We traded it in when I was senior for a new Besson Stratford cornet. As I recall, in the 1960's there seemed to be an even ratio of cornets to trumpets in the school bands.

My first trumpet was the Olds Recording I purchased at a yard sale in 1974. I am still playing my horns at age 62.

I started in 4th grade, at age 9, with a Bach student trumpet (unsure of the model), and been playing since!
