Age 12. In the 7th Grade.

Got put in the wrong elective class, ended up forced to take band. Got a Getzen 300 and loved it, I still play to this day.

Good choice and it is for this reason that I give you an A+ for that course!

I could add, also that after the initial cattle call lessons in 6th grade with the trumpet made by a viola maker ( to purposely undermine any progress or improvement) I lost enthusiasm. Didn't altogether quit, but then had a renewed start in the 8th grade, took private lessons and got my new Sears Roebuck catalog trumpet and took off like a rocket. By the time I was a junior in High School i was first chair in the HS band. We were one of the best bands in the state.
Just saying. It took more than me to do that, but I was a part of a great group. Still have the Trumpet, made by Blessing, and I use it for keeping the chops in shape when I'm out of town. Valves are lightning quick- almost as good as the Getzen, but none quite measure up to those!!

I'd never picked up a trumpet or cornet before the age of 42.

5 years later I am still enjoying it and at a reasonable level, but I am lacking that 30 years plus experience that most players of my age have.

    Late developer, I guess......

I started in 6th grade, about age 10 or 11.

I got a new King American Standard silver plated, that was about 1958? Now my Grandson is using it to learn to play.
