I started at eight, and am now fifty-one. Boy, am I good!
Started playing in the 7th grade at age 12.
First instrument was an Olds Cornet.
(knew I wanted to play the trumpet after hearing Louis Armstrong at Purdue University)
18. I'm now 18. Playing for about 6 months.
I want some opinions about that too. Who thinks that it's too late?
I have a very thorough understanding of reading music and music theory, but what I lack is the technical ability. I've been told I'm making good progress, but I tend to be very self-critical on this topic.
I'm playing on a King 601.
I first started playing a Conn Director cornet borrowed from my school during the summer between 7th and 8th grades. Two friends helped me learn the horn that summer, and then another friend who was quitting band sold me his horn the following school year, which was my Christmas present that year: a 1964 Conn Connstellation 38B, which I still own to this day.
I played through the end of high school and for the 1st 2 years of undergraduate, but then quit. I picked up my Connstellation for the first time in March 2008, after almost a 30 year hiatus, had a Bob Reeves PVA performed, and she plays better than ever now!
in 5th grade at 10 yrs old on an olds intermidiate horn of some sort, im 16 now and about to go into my junior year, I not play on a 1976 mint condition bach strad.
the year after me they cut out 5th grade band due to costs
