I've been seeing this acronym. Maybe an inside thing all of us aren't privy to? Did a google search and found no relevance that I can see to things trumpety. What does it mean please? Thanks.

It's just a way to say you always want one more horn than you have.

N+1 is the number of trumpets/horns which one desires/covets and "N" is the number you currently have. You buy a horn and are happy for a few hours and then see another which you cast a longing eye upon. It never ends, and I have not found a cure so far

n usually denotes a fixed integer, such as the number of trumpets we own. For us, n + 1 refers to getting just one more trumpet. If we keep at it long enough it will take us to infinity and beyond and n+ 1 describes the collector's mindset really well. If we want to be really snotty it should be lowercase and in italics.

I showed that to my wife - observed interesting narrowing of the eyes and a cautious smile...
