I have a B flat and a C trumpet, and I am debating whether I should get a piccolo trumpet. Can someone explain why they are worth the money? I know they are used in Baroque styles, but if I can play just as high on my other trumpets, why do I need a piccolo?

The picc has nothing to do with how many high notes that you can get. It is about how elegantly that you can play them. Quite often a B or C is simply too "fat" in sound and that covers up voices or other instruments.

Maybe YOU don't need a picc. If you play nothing where it would be useful, it has little functionality. A great portion of the gigs that I get are on the picc however. I do not mind less competition...................

If you don't see the need for a picc why would you buy one? I have one but I use it a lot.
