its a cool horn, sounds like a trumpet sorta. If you know how to play the trumpet do you know how to play the flugel?

It does have is slightly different feel to play and the sound is warmer, but the concept is the same. Though you should not attempt to play different horns until you have a decent mastery over the trumpet. And you have a ways to go. If you work hard and work smart at learning the trumpet, it should only be a few years until you can start to double on other instruments. One at a time, k? Slow and steady wins the race.

The player is Luis Aquino from San Juan, Puerto Rico. He did this tour back in 1997-98. He played a Yamaha Flugel then. He currently plays Fides and uses Warburton mouthpieces.
It has different sound because Yanni has all his horns players on several effects (especially when they solo). There was a phase sampler, heavy reverb and chorus on the whole solo, maybe even a midi doubler reed instrument as well....
Smooth playing cat with a great tone though.

That certainly looks like a Yamaha 631 flugel, an earlier one.
