Was there one song you mastered that kind of brought you over the top as far as ability? This may sound funny, but in my case it was Sousa's "Stars And Stripes". Being able to play it from beginning to end made my day.

While I am humbled by jiarby's reply, I can think of 2 songs that were watershed moments for me.

A Trumpeter's Lullaby - This was in the summer after 7th grade. I had been informed that I would be first chair in the fall and it was the first time I was featured on a song.

Carnival of Venice (Arban version)- In college for one of my juries. This was the first solo of myself that I recorded (with my handy cassette recorder). My mother played that tape for years. Moms are like that, which is one of the reasons why they're so special. :-)

It was the Haydn for me, for a state competition. I still love that piece.

Pictures of Spain for me. Not too difficult a song, but it was all mainly over the staff ranging from E in staff to C above the staff. Fun song to play in HS.

Sounds like all of the above would make for one hell of a cd. I would surely purchase it. Thank's for sharing, AL.

There were a lot of Arbans, but the most terrifying was in high school "And the Angels sing" Ziggy version, always down in front, every person on earth in the audience.... OY
