Hi all, I am new to the trumpet and use a Yamaha Silent Mute but the sound reproduction is not to good.
I was thinking on the lines of a box placed on a music stand or desk with sound insulation inside that I can play into to dampen the sound. Can anyone recommened a type of insulation that would suit the job..................Pete.

It won't work. The problem is that the entire bell radiates sound. The SilentBrass and BestBrass mutes have a pretty big rubber ring to damp the bell at the right place - which is exactly what most perceive to be the sound quality issue.

I have found all of those mutes just fine once we get used to them.

I think a practice mute during the first year of playing is absolute poison to developing good breathing, sound and articulation as we are also teaching the ears as well as the lungs, chops and brains.
