which vintage trumpets should I look for?

    The 22B's from the original Conn Company (up until around 1970) were professional trumpets. The ones sold today are student models.

    It could be a better horn, and it could be a worse one. Depends on the individual horns being compared. I played a '55 Mt. Vernon Strad for a number of years and it was a great trumpet. I also had a '76 Elkhart Strad at the same time and it was just as good.

    A fairly nice, original one would probably sell for around $2000 to $2500. Mine had been relacquered, looked like new, and I sold it on eBay a couple years ago for a little over $2000.
