I've gotten to be a big fan of James Morrison through his youtube videos, he plays sax and trombone almost as well. What a monster! Warren Vache is another incredible player who is always a little under the radar as far as the general public is concerned.

The trumpet is my midlife crisis and its inspiration was Miles Davis.

I discovered Chet Baker as a sophomore in High School...digging through the CD racks @ my public library. Up to that point, i had (like most young trumpeters) been really into Miles. Once i heard Chet, everything just jived for me...his tone, his energy/emotion, his phrasing...i was hooked. Over the years, i've learned a lot more about Chet and his colorful history...which depending how i feel, i can take or leave. But i can comfortably say that he is my favorite trumpet player to listen to. m

Always been a huge fan of Bill Chase. Lately I've been listening to a lot of Alison Balsom. I love classical music and she plays it to perfection.
Other notables I've admired are MF, Wynton Marsalis, Cat Anderson.

I looked through this whole thread, and I'm surprised how little Arturo Sandoval was mentioned. I think once as part of a longer list. Why is that?

I agree that Chet is still one of the best, but I also like Roy Eldridge who played a mean horn.:-)
