Well new finger buttons, turns out the cornet is compatible with Bach Strads. Wheh!, it is amazing how much difference finger buttons can make. Not only eliminating clicking, faster return, and giving better tone, but also making it easier to clear the water, and looking pretty darn nice too.

Maybe your valves were out of alignment and the change helped lock things better in place?

Me too. They weren't screwing in all the way, so they pushed the valve down too far...

The material the buttons are made from makes a difference - I have more success with metal (plated brass or nickel silver) buttons, than with buttons with plastic inserts (pearls).

One improvement I have made to many horns is to just put the buttons in the lathe and face them off to remove the plastic inlays.

Don't forget to mention the improved triple tonguing and far, far fewer clams as well. :play:

You know, we carry out lots of mods to trumpets and finger pearls including custom inserts and styles, but Ive never even considered just machining them flat.

Im interested now, will give a one of our rentals units a trial go.

Interesting idea, do you replate the button.
