A while back I saw an episode of the show "The Twilight Zone". This episode, recorded in the early 60's, featured Jack Klugman playing the part of a trumpet player with all the bad vices jazz trumpet players could possibly have. In this episode he has some interesting conversations with Saint Gabriel as well!

There is some fantastic trumpet playing in this episode. The player has a big, beautiful "buttery" sound.

Has anyone else seen this episode? Who is the player who recorded it?

Isn't this the episode where he dies and doesn't know it because it looks like he's walking among the living?

    :-o

Here is some more info about that episode:

The name of the episode was "A Passage For Trumpet" released during the first season of the series(5/20/1960). The music was by Lyn Murray.

The show starts with Rod Serling:

"Joey Crown, musician with an odd, intense face, whose life is a quest for impossible things like flowers in concrete or like trying to pluck a note of music out of the air and put it under a glass to treasure...Joey Crown, musician with an odd, intense face, who in a moment will leave the earth and discover the middle ground--the place we call the Twight Zone."

    The show ends with:

"Joey Crown, who makes music, and who discovered something about life; that it can be rich and rewarding and full of beauty, just like the music he played, if a person would only pause to look and listen. Joey Crown, who got his clue in the Twilight Zone".

    Really great stuff!
