Why are Baroque style Trumpets so expensive and are they really worth it?

Why does anything cost what it costs? Because there are enough that will spend the money.

Are they worth it? Well, I have three now and they were all paid for within a month of the purchase......... My answer would be YES.

They are more than just tube and a bell. I took a trumpetmaking course last year. That was the cheapest natural trumpet that I own, and it is VERY good. The same course also runs in the states. I guess they are taking names for next year!

I can say that the better instruments are MUCH better than the cheaper ones. With the baroque trumpet with vents, it is much easier to play with modern instruments and tuning. With the real natural trumpet (no vents), the difference is between playable and dustable.

I have a friend who makes trumpet of all kinds, including baroque and the keyed trumpet in Eb. They take him hours to build and it took years of work to build them the way he does now.
I've played his personal Bb and C trumpets. Both are exceptional. His keyed trumpet is a gas to play once you figure out you cannot finger the three keys the way you would a trumpet for a particular sound.
His baroque trumpets are in the hands of some major players.
