I am going through a real Brandt phase at the moment. Not only are the studies good for the chops, but i also like their melodies.

What is your favourite studies at the moment?

I don't know if it is my favorite, but I am working on #18. It's not long but it is hard to get all the notes out accurately.

I had a love/hate relationship in college with the Bordogni Vocalises transposition studies.

If you are preparing for orchestral playing and/or just wanting to get your brain working on transposition and musical phrasing at the same time,, this book is a must. I just wish I had started in this book even in high school.

None. I do not like studies or etudes.

I practice them because I know they are goo for me, but I do not like them.

Brandt is wonderful, but so is Charlier.

My favorite studies for keeping my chops up are:
1)Using the SPIT Book, playing a random page very soft and slow.
2)Various Bach Cello pieces that I transcribed using finale.
Presently, I work my chops on The Concerto in D minor Gigue and Sarabande.
I've transcribed Suite 1 the first movement "Prelude" but damned its gonna take a while.
After that, I generally work on jazz.
