I have been searching for Ziggey's trumpet solo on "When The Angels Sing"
with the Benny Goodman Band and having zero luck. I think most of the solo except the melody was improvised. All that I can find are the lyrics and the
piano parts. I just want the closest thing I can get to the original solo.
    Anybody have any ideas.

I have a double lp reissue of Bg, including When the Angels sing, Feb, 1939, with ziggy playing that famous sole. Martha Tilton , vocal.
I just played it to make sure.

Are you searching for the recording or the written music? This may be a little thing, but I think the song is entitled "And the Angels Sing", not When......
Sorry if I've misinterpreted your post.

Dave, I have the recording also, what I need is the music, so I can play it.
I have no problem finding the piano and even the lyrics but the trumpet part
seems not to exist, written down that is. I have always liked that solo with BG, I think Ziggy
never really got proper credit for his playing. I understand he was selling cars later in life. Pretty hard trying to make a living blowing into a piece of brass even at the heyday of big bands and swing.

Depends on what you call improvised. Ziggy played it basically the same way every time.

Send me your email address in a PM and I will send you a copy of the solo part.

BTW It's "And The Angels Sing"...original title..."Frailich In Swing".

Here is a Youtube video of a Detroit band doing the tune.

Very, very hot and gold mouthpieces really don't grip at 90 plus degrees.
