Okay, the good news is that my CTscan didn't show any cancer AGAIN. My biggest fear was (and is) that someday my cancer will comeback in a different part of the body. That was good news!

The bad news is that it hurts so bad to play that I have now resorted to play the flute in my band classes -- no back pressure means no pain. The only good thing coming from this is that my flute playing is getting better. My trumpet playing is going nowhere fast because I'm afraid to pick up my horn.

I will have a follow up next week with my doctor after he reviews my films in detail. Darn it, this better hurry up and go away.

The administrator of TPIN asked this same question for he was due for one; so, you could ask him. As I recall, he had some gigs lined up and wanted to know how long before he could play again.

I think this operation made him retire early.............(joke)

Post a message on TPIN and I am sure you will get an immediate answer.

Good luck and be well,

Liad

Wheat Grass Juice will help and speed up the healing because it is high in oxygen. Read up on it in the internet and you will see that homeopathic doctors use it a part of their treatment for cancer.

Essiac tea is another thing to look up that might help you. Read the story of how this came to be found. It's very interesting. At one time Canada voted to declare it a cure for cancer and it missed passing their parliment by two votes.

Be well,

Liad

I had one done in 2001. There are a number of different ways to repair them. The down time and strength of the repair varies widely, depending on what they do.

My repair was done in a way that leaves some kind of mesh on both sides of the wall around the rupture. My doctor wanted me to resume normal activity as soon as I could tolerate it, and said that that kind of repair was immediately stronger than the original tissue before the hernia. So I was practicing again within a couple of days. (It wasn't exactly comfortable, that soon, but the Dr. had said that for the repair he did with me it was actually advisable to get going with it.)

Again, there are other kinds of repair that aren't nearly so strong, and for which the Doctor's advice will be very different.

So definitely shop around and get a kind of repair that will work for you.

Update

The IVP didn't show a hernia, and even better it also didn't show a return of my cancer!!! The bad news is that they still have not figured out what is causing my pain, and it still hurts like heck to blow on my horn.

I play with my students, but not serious playing. It's just enough to keep my chops from going totally dead. I played a wedding a couple weeks ago and ended up on pain killers for two days.

The strangest thing is that I have been playing flute in class with my students. No back pressure means no pain! I miss my trumpet but I'm actually getting very good on flute and will start offering this as a second instrument for church gigs if it means playing a part with a choir! My flute students love it! They think they are getting some special attention from their band director who plays the trumpet!
