![]() | Lots of good advice here....my personal preference is to keep the same rim (Warburton 5) and alter the cup depth (S, M, D, etc) and/or backbore to get the desired sound you want for the playing situation. For me, keeping a consistent rim feel on my chops help my accuracy. Just my .02 -JP |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have always used different mouthpieces and rim sizes for different styles of playing. I now only play the Monette mouthpieces. His concept works for me better when I use it on all my horns. Big fat sound(Deep F rotary, all Bb and C): Bach 1A, Schilke 18, Monette B2D chamber music(all Bb): Bach 1C, Monette B2 D/Eb/G trumpet: Benge 7C, Monette E4 A/Bb Picc: Bach 10 1/2 E, Monette AP5 Baroque trumpet: Klier 3C (big piece with very sharp rim) Joey is 100% on the mark. Switching regardless of rim means MORE time investment. It is worth the time to me to have the appropriate sound for each type of group that I play with. I have colleagues that do not switch and get the job (well) done too.
