5 seconds could seem like an eternity. If you need that long to "reset" then perhaps this is not an etude you are ready to perform in public.

Re: Charlier 1

Be careful, 5 seconds could destroy the context, then what's it worth?

I've always thought that etudes were great for recitals - the ultimate solo trumpet piece. However, their success all depends on whether or not you have something to say with the music, otherwise it's just a display of motor skills.

Since a recital exists for the enjoyment of the audience, and the days draw close, might you select a piece you have mastered?

Re: Charlier 1

You might feel more comfortable playing one of the Top Tones by W.M. Smith, less challenging and a bit shorter. We don't get graded on ours, but my teacher gives us a list of 'recommended' literature, not too hard for high school but I guess that will change in college.

Re: Charlier 1

It sounds to me like your approach to the Etude is a bit on the heavy side.
As trumpetdiva mentioned, try the work with lighter tonguing. Endurance shouldn't be a problem, it's about a minute and a half of light playing.
Think lightness.
