I guess what with work, distance and prior engagements it can be difficult to attend

Denver is not a starved place for trumpet players. I think simply, the ITG charges WAY to much for the conference. They were only expecting 800 people to attend. What? A major conference with only 800 people? Some manufacturers will not be there because of the small turnout. There was a post about one day passes. I don't think the ITG does that. Why not?

Yes there are great seminars at the ITG. If you pay your bucks and attend lots of the seminars you will get your money's worth. But not everyone will do that. I just think they should have different levels of passes. One day, full seminars, individual seminars, exhibition only, etc. They would have thousands show up then, IMO. But they don't. It will be great if you go to everything for your bucks!

No offense, Jim, but you're way off on ITG conference fees. Less than $300 for 4 days! Are you serious? Even if you JUST saw the recitals and concerts, you'd be plenty ahead. This is pocket change for the experiences available, people you meet, old friends you see, and inspiration you can receive.

Even less than I thought. I just double-checked, the conference is just $215 for members, $255 for non-members. Nothing is stated on the site about individual day passes, but my memory tells me that they have been available "at the door" during the conference. Who knows? Contact Alan Hood (conference director at Boulder) to find out for sure.

Dr. Stewart,

Like I said, it is great if you go for the four days. Not everyone wants (or can go for four days). Many conferences offer one day passes, even exhibition passes. I think $255 is a BARGAIN for four days. But if you cannot make all four, the price is too much.

They would get more if they offered some different options -- like many other major conferences do. I can not make all four days. I could make 2 or 3 maybe. I am from the Denver area so I would like to go back and see family and friends. But I will not spend $255 to drop in.

Brad Goode at ITG

I'm a big fan of jazz trumpeter Brad Goode. If those of you attending find that you may purchase recordings of sessions there, please post the info here. It seems like many years ago they did this, but I doubt they still do. But a fella can always hope.

Thanks, and I hope all of you fortunate enough to attend have a great time.

They have a day pass at the door, if I remember correctly. (I think it was $65 last year, but I'm not certain). If you're in town on business and can only afford to take an afternoon off to see the vendors, then you can generally sneak in without official ID. You can only go to the seminars and concerts by paying, but none of the vendors are going to complain when you come to their tables to try their wares.

65 bux just to get in for a DAY?!! Holy smokes!

Turns out that, yes, I will be there, more than likely on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. But for cryin' out loud that's a lot of money. I'm gonna have a hard time reasoning this one with the folks. I agree with whoever said that if it was free they would have a lot more. Doesn't even have to be free, just make it 10 dollars a head. You'd still make a lot of money as more people would show up than what will currently.

Anyway, I'll be the really tall dufus with a Texan accent. 99% chance I'll be wearing a Texas A&M shirt with either a white Aggie hat or a black Houston Astros hat. Don't hesitate to say hello.

If you don't try to go to concerts and seminars, you can probably just walk in (I did last year). The exhibitors love to see any potential customers. If you've got your gigbag over your shoulder it's easy to cruise right in the front door.

Well, my current plan is to try for Thursday, and will definitely attempt to sneak in to the vendor area. However, Alan Vizzuti, Ronald Romm, and Fredoric Mills are all performing throughout the day. That's gonna be hard to pass up.

If it's handled the same as last year, there will not be recordings of the sessions for sale.

I'm looking forward to meeting Mike S. there!
