![]() | Shoot man, the jury is still out on that one. I love the horn to death but I could surely use the cash right now so I dunno. I got thousands and thousands of dollars in horns sittin around the house and a car in the driveway I don't drive. -J

![]() | I was hit directly in the mouth with a tinners hammer (it has a very sharp peen end) on October 5, 2005. The resulting damage took several stiches to close up and a trip to the dentist to repair a broken front tooth. I was devastated that I might not be able to play again. The stiches were removed on the 12th and on October 23rd I picked up my horn and went to rehearsal not knowing if I could even buzz let alone play. The director of our group approached me immidiately and asked if I was OK. I think he thought I was kidding when I told him we would find out together. As it turned out we were sight reading a draft of a new piece being written in the style of Percy Granger. It was being recorded so that the composer could hear what he had to that point (2 of 3 planned movements). There was a short passage for solo trumpet in the middle of the 2nd movement and feeling by then that things seemed to be working, I just took it. I didn't let anyone know my intentions before that moment. I just did it because I had to KNOW I WAS OK!!! Once again I had been blessed with a happy ending to an unfortunate event!!! I know that all too often happy endings don't happen and the thought of that happening to me was just sickening. I can't imagine how I would have reacted had the ending been different. Keeping that in mind, may all of you who have had a serious lip injury be blessed with full recovery too.

![]() | Kind of a freak thing. I was removing some industrial grade aluminum siding from a factory wall. I was using the hammer to pry the seams apart and the handle broke. The head sprang back at me and struck me directly on the upper lip, right of center, and at the exact spot the mouthpiece rim sits. My upper right front tooth was broken as well. I know I'm extremely lucky to recover so quickly. The only ill effect I've noticed has been a slight loss of endurance, but even that seems to be lessening with each passing day. Anyway, thanks for the concern.

| Pianissimo User | Before I began playing trumpet (aka sometime before 5th grade), I was doing my homework at the kitchen table, when suddenly the wheeled chair slid out from under me and I did a face plant into the table. My lip was bleeding a lot. That's basically all I remember. All I have as a reminder is a small scar inside my lower lip. I can play fine, and lots of people say I'm the best trumpet player in school. I have to actively suppress my ego.
