Minor Repair Question

Quick question to the board....

I was playing my Bb Silverflair today when all of a sudden the 3rd valve mother of pearl inlay comes off the top of the 3rd valve. No biggie I was able to continue on but it was a bit ackward.

Here's the question....

I'm cheap and would like to avoid taking it to my horn guy; I'm sure the repair would not be costly but I'm in a pinch and have to really watch every dime.

Anyone know; Can I just use a adhesive like crazy glue and set it back into the button?

It's worth a try........make sure the two surfaces are clean and dry..

You might try an epoxy like J.B.Weld.

Gorilla Glue is a good product also.

John- I can tell you what did NOT work for me: Crazy glue, hot glue, contact cement. Hot glue worked for a while, but it popped out again. (My piccolo "pearl" came out; still haven't found a sloution yet). Haven't tried Gorilla glue. That might work.

I agree: Contact Cement. Never use a permanent glue like epoxy. It makes a real future repair much more difficult.
Also good is the hot glue woodwind instruments use for gluing pads.

Everyone,

Thanks for the advice. I figued out post about it and see if a concenses existed before destroying my horn with my own stupidity!

I see that this should be something that I can do so I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

I think Gorilla glue sets up fast and won't come off if you make a mistake.

I used Elmer's and it never came off again. I have found that the quicker the glue sets up the shorter it lasts.(not counting Gorilla) Elmer's will take over night.

I'd use a little contact cement. Elmer's doesn't adhere well to non-porus surfaces and dissolves in water (if you wash your horn).
