Re: Modern Listening.

I love to listen to:
Nicholas Payton- I had the honor of working with him heavily for about 2 and a half years. I consider him to be one of the greatest young trumpet masters. High level creativity.....whether arranging, composing, playing trumpet, piano, bass, drums, this young man has a genius mind. A complete handle and knowledge of the tradition while while looking forward with great vision.
Thomas Marriott- My main man from Seattle, Washington. Thomas' voice is unique.....This is a challenge when considering that it's so easy to fall into somebody elses sound concept. His 2 CD's are on the Origin Arts label. Worth checking out!
Paolo Fresu- Trumpeter from Sardinia. I love his Angel Quartet recordings.
Tim Hagans- Beautiful modern harmonic....I dug him with Kenton, I love him with Bob Beldon.
Kenny Wheeler always sounds fresh to me.

I'm actually going back and checking out a bunch of things that I listened to 25 plus years ago-
Blue Mitchell
Donald Byrd
Johnny Coles
Bill Hardman
Lee Morgan
Woody Shaw
Freddie Hubbard
